Less Music Conferences More Focus
ByFirst I would like to clarify that this article is not intended to disrespect the planners of any conferences, summits, or seminars. But there is a tremendous misconception about the purpose of these events. Many artists and music industry professionals in general believe you attend conferences to network and to “learn” all you need to know about the music business. Wrong. You go to conferences to build relationships thus building your network. And of course hopefully leading to more business. I cannot stress this enough. The end result of you attempting to conduct business in the music business should be…well business.
The fine line between a social trip and a business trip can be tied to the amount of business you conduct that leads to greater sales.
Meeting suppliers, vendors or business growth opportunities via education (i.e. BIZ4DaSoul) should be your main agenda/goal. But don’t expect to learn everything in one session. And like any other industry don’t try to conduct business without first learning the industry. You wouldn’t try to conduct business as an attorney without first learning your craft right?
Now that we have discussed the misconceptions of conferences, summits, and seminars. Lets discus your area’s of focus as an artist or music professional. When I mention focus these are the area’s you are going to study, test, and assess results repeatedly. Not just education but application. Not just application but assessment to see if your actions brought the desired results. Then the next step is to repeat the process. And of course the anchor to the philosophy of this entire strategy is accountability. The less you’re blaming someone else for your career challenges (i.e. I am not a success because no one will sign me) the more you are claiming your own victory.
BIZ4DaSoul trains you to become the victor not the victim.
As an artist your main responsibility at these events is to develop your business and craft. Anything beyond that is a social vacation and you need to recognize that.
Stay focused; develop your education, craft, business, and brand. Again less conferences more focus.
